Cloud seeding. I know, it’s been around a while. Who cares. It’s fucking interesting
The Great Schtate of NC
So NorCack, like most southern states, is loaded with religious influence of the Christian kind (count me in that category). As of tonight, however, it is loaded with hypocrisy. NC voted on its now infamous First Amendment today, and the word “Yes” won by almost 60%. What does that mean, you ask? Well, that means that the state decided to define marriage as “between man and woman.” That’s their right, and it’s completely Constitutional.
I have a problem with the way this has all transpired. Billy Graham, who I totally admire, spoke on the issue last week. He essentially said it was our duty to protect the Christian definition of marriage which is between man and woman. Although there is never an exact definition of man-woman marriage in The Bible, there is an ever-present assumption of a covenant of marriage between opposite sexes that is apparent throughout the Good Book.
Here’s where I loose my grip. Jesus not only loved ALL, he completely disagreed with a religious government. Matter of fact, government involvement in a religious matter is what ultimately lead to his crucifixion. Why, then, is the state of NC, a dominantly Christian state, voting for an amendment that is supported by religion? Christianity should not, and DOES NOT, need government justification. This applies to ANYTHING, including the right to marry, well, whoever.
North Carolina has every right to decide its stances on gay marriage and related state-funded benefits. It does not, however, need to allow the state to endorse any amendment supported solely by a religion.
